Frequently Asked Questions

On Genesis of the Hunter

  • What influenced you to write this story?

As early as I can remember, I have always been a wildly imaginative person. During my childhood, and youth, I would often spend hours, sometimes even while in school or in church, daydreaming and conjuring dynamic, engaging stories in my mind; so engrossing that, to me, they were often better than any movie I could watch. In fact, when I have a moment, I still allow myself to be lost deep in creative thought from time to time. Genesis of the Hunter began as one such daydream, which I envisioned in late high school. It was the scene with the sentry in the loft. This particularly vivid and thrilling daydream remained in the back of my mind for many years until finally I began to create a story around it.

On the Writing Process

  • How long did it take you to write Genesis of the Hunter?

Well, in the beginning, my athletic pursuits took precedent over much of my writing and so my time was divided. Given this, coupled with research, work, and planning the structure of the story, it took me about two years to write.

  • How long did it take you to get a publishing contract after you finished writing?

When I finished writing the bulk of this novel (‘novels’ after being split into a two part series), I read the work over and then began the process of submitting manuscripts and manuscript samples to various publishers. The process can be lengthy, as many publishing houses are not even able to assess newly submitted material for months thereafter. However, I was fortunate; it did not take as long as I had anticipated, and I was able to procure a contract in about two months after having begun submissions. For any future writers reading this, be confident in your work and continue to submit your material. If you truly believe in and love your written work, the chances are others will as well.
